From Shipmate Mike Ledger:

Hello shipmates, I am pleased to inform you that everything is set for your personal tour of the Midway Museum in October. I have confirmed your visit with my supervisor aboard Midway the plan will be for you to be on the pier at no later than 0900 on October 1 . I will be there to personally welcome each one of you aboard and get you signed in. We plan to get you in early before the Museum opens at 1000 hrs for the general public. The first stop will be to the “Island” where you will see Primary Flight Control, then the chart house, and the bridge, pilot house and Captain’s at sea quarters. Plan to wear comfortable clothing, and walking shoes. For those of you who may have mobility issues and cannot climb ladders and stairs, we will assist you in seeing as much of the Midway as your abilities allow. For those who are able, we are going to give you tours of areas “behind the scenes” where the general public is not allowed to go.

Most of you probably already know that Midway is the Premier Aircraft Carrier museum in the world today. Since 2004 when she first opened, we have had over 5,000,000 visitors. This will be an exciting visit with lots of things to see and remember about the Midway and the Collett. There is a wonderful gift shop where you will be able to purchase unique items and memento’s of your visit. We also have the “Fan Tail Café” should you get hungry from all the walking and climbing. We hope your visit will leave you with a new appreciation and respect for the personal sacrifice of our men and women who serve in our military today.

I am personally looking forward to meeting each one of you and it is my sincere pleasure and honor to arrange this visit for you.

Should you have further questions, please feel free to contact me. On behalf of the Midway Museum, the American symbol of freedom here in San Diego, I wish you all fair winds and following seas!

Best Regards,

Mike Ledger
